Student Ambassador Gabriella Fraenk is a woman who genuinely loves technology. She is never one to stand down when a challenge arises. Gabriella is constantly trying to better herself. In just a few short weeks, Gabriella will graduate with a degree from Florida State University in Information, Communication, and Technology. She is involved in numerous campus organizations, including Women in IT/ICT Sharing Experiences (WISE), Campus Girl Scouts, Codeducation, and the Audio Music Club. She also enjoys attending Hackathons in her free time and encourages others to apply. Gabriella works on campus as a front desk associate for the College of Education Tech Sandbox. In this position she is able to teach others about a variety of innovative technology and how they may be used in classrooms. In the spring of 2015, Gabriella decided to join the Florida IT Career Alliance as a Student Ambassador. “It combines three things I love,” she explained, “technology, learning, and teaching.” As a member of the Alliance, Gabriella has worked to inspire others to discover their potential.

IMG_9715Gabriella has been involved in a variety of events with FITC ranging from Women in Leadership conferences to teaching Girl Scouts coding. She is grateful for the opportunity to learn how to get over her fear of meeting new people and public speaking. Gabriella is constantly working with students to teach them more about technology. “It’s rewarding for me because I was never given a chance to learn technology since we had limited number of computers in middle school and no programming classes in high school,” she described. Gabriella recognizes the role FITC plays in helping students enter the tech workforce. “[FITC] provides that pipeline from students to employers,” she explained.

Gabriella is enthused to graduate this semester. Gabriella has accepted a position with General Motors as a Software Developer. She will move to Austin, Texas in mid-June to start her career. While in Austin, Gabriella plans to freelance web design and take music lessons. Gabriella is the first generation in her family to finish college and receive her Bachelor’s degree in the United States. “It’s a good feeling…” Gabriella described, “my mom has always been there for me…. She always believed I would amount to do great things.” The FITC team is excited to see the great things she does in the future.

FITC and technology education are important because, technology is an emerging field and we have to be educated and provided the tools so we can adapt to the changes in technology and to be able to think in innovative ways. FITC also prepares students and provides that pipeline from students to employers.Gabriella Fraenk
