Since I’ve become a FITC Ambassador I have gained great skills and have been provided so many professional opportunities. I have built my skills in public speaking , presentation, planning, networking, designing, educating, and working in a group environment. Working in a group is critical in today’s field of information technology.

Information Technology is so versatile and there are endless opportunities for people. FITC presents an opportunity to be able to shed light on that and speak to the masses about such an amazing field.

I wanted to introduce students to the various opportunities in the STEM field. FITC also provided me an avenue to mentor young men and young women. My most memorable experience [with FITC] was when myself and the other ambassadors sparked a student’s interest in the STEM field by talking to him and teaching him various concepts in coding. I felt that we helped a young man by providing direction to a rewarding career field…I feel technology education is important because technology is becoming ever more relevant in every industry. Only the individuals how know how to manipulate technology will be marketable. Secondly, FITC is useful because their initiatives get students interested in this great field at an early age.

Before becoming an Ambassador I wasn’t really too involved in my department outside of my regular curriculum, however I always that that it was important to do so. I saw becoming an FITC ambassador as a way to become a more well-rounded individual, and build more rapport with my fellow classmates as well as some of the faculty, while at the same time doing meaningful work that could potentially impact young kids in the community in a positive way. Not to mention that I’d be able to get the word out there about FAMU’s ‘already great and only getting’ better CIS Department, and the opportunities that it provides its students.
I think FITC is a vital program to both college and grade school students. It gives college students the opportunity to build greatly needed interpersonal and communication skills needed for the real world, while also putting some money in their pockets so that they don’t have to struggle as much with finances. And it simultaneously promotes, educates and motivates children about technology as well as professional development and other life skills. And it’s vitally important to get the word out there about technology just because it is playing a bigger role than ever in everyday life, and it’s still growing at an amazing rate, and to be able to understand technology is a key that can unlock countless opportunities for a person in life.

I wanted to get the younger generation excited about technology and recruit them into the department. The greater our department becomes the more student will want to come to Florida A&M University and major in our field. Kids are moving away from the STEM fields because they feel like they’re too difficult. I think it’s important to show kids that technology is fun and you can succeed in this field. Like anything if you put forth the effort you will be successful. However, it’s not as difficult and boring as a lot of kids tend to think.
