Being able to share what I have learned about technology is a truly special experience. In such a technology dependent world, it is important to work on closing the gap between those who do and do not have access or proper knowledge of technology. With FITC, I have learned how to teach others what I have learned, as well as developed leadership and teamwork skills.

Many students are still unaware of the growth and opportunity in the technology field. I think FITC will serve as an important piece in driving the next generation into the technology field.
Hyun “Ronnie” Myers
I love teaching technology because I know the expansive nature of the subject, so I know the information is benefitting the students. I wish I had been given more opportunities to be exposed to technology prior to college, so seeing the students’ genuine interest and knowledge on the subject is an inspiration. With FITC, I have gained a new kind of determination. Being an FITC Student Ambassador, you are more than just an individual, but rather part of an organization bigger than you. On one hand, each individual in the group has such different skills to bring to the table, which pushes you to be better and learn more. On the other, you have the individuals you are affecting and you want to do everything you can to ensure they are getting the most out of what you do. This has pushed me to put in a little extra time to expand my knowledge beyond what I have learned in the classroom.

Through FITC, I have learned to communicate in group settings better and I now feel more confident in my teaching abilities, both of which are very employable traits.

Technology literacy is an essential school for self-empowerment. The best moments teaching occur when a student realizes they can do something with technology they never thought they’d be able to do. With FITC, I have been able grow my own technology skills, network with fellow students and employers, and practice my communication skills.
Douglas Hennenfent
The work FITC is doing with students is essential because the organization gives students the opportunity to understand how they can use technology in a potential future career.

I love teaching technology because it’s important that people understand the concepts behind technology and the tasks they can complete with it. FITC has given me the opportunity to give back to the community as well as learn more things about myself through the environments that I’ve been placed. Furthermore, when companies see on my resume that I’ve been involved in the community dealing with technology, they are more likely to hire me.

My most memorable experience with FITC was teaching a young boy how to build a website. When we started, the boy was uninterested. As I sat with him, he repeatedly told me things like, ‘this stuff is too hard,’ and ‘maybe it’s just not for me.’ I told him that he was talking nonsense and explained to him how to start and let him work on creating his own website. With some helpful guidance, the boy began to go at his own pace. By the end of the lesson, the boy was blown away he left that class with the ability to build his own website using HTML and CSS. I saw him at a later occasion and the boy stopped to tell me how he had finished his own website and how he is now working on more complex websites using java-script!

Teaching technology is always fun because as you teach others, you always tend to learn something new yourself. Not everyone solves problems the same way, and the way others go about doing things can enlighten you to adapt your own style. The main things I have learned in my short time here are Robotics, Raspberry Pi, and micro controller. FITC has given me real world experience with projects and hands on knowledge.

FITC has helped grow as a person. Originally, I joined with the hopes of inspiring students through teaching them about technology. In reality, they inspired me.
Courtney Lisenbee
It was really cool to see [the students] go from knowing nothing about STEM to having all of these ideas and questions about everything from websites and game design to drones.
Lauren Gerhadstein
Seeing the students excited about the Google CS First program motivates me to put forth my best foot forward in impacting their lives towards technology in the STEM fields. As an IT student, I personally understand the importance of reaching out to our young students starting from our very own communities. They will be the future problem-solvers, and instilling that to them at a young age is vital to my mission and the mission of the Florida IT Career Alliance. I didn’t get that chance growing up, so this is a great opportunity to pay it forward!

I love inspiring students to become anything and that [they want] in any profession, technology is needed. They don’t have to be programmers, developers, and engineers, they just have to understand how technology works and how it can be applied in their field of interest. I love teaching technology most of all because when students get excited about learning technology, to see a smile on their face is what is most rewarding to me. With FITC, I’ve gained confidence as well as communication and public speaking skills.
Gabriella Fraenk
Teaching technology is enjoyable because it sparks the innovative spirit in individuals that otherwise goes unexplored and untapped. It brings me joy, seeing others learn and explore areas they have a simple/small passion for and watch it grow into a crafted specialty. Sharing that journey by teaching others technology is rewarding. Skills I have gained through becoming an FITC Student Ambassador include the power of networking, collaborative effort, and what it takes to engage in large groups as a leader/facilitator.

Teaching Google CS at Cobb was a great experience that I had through FITC. I enjoyed working with young kids who were passionate and excited to learn more about technology. I’ve learned a lot about the differences between Computer Science, Information Technology and Computer Engineering and why they play an important part in the tech field. Also, I’ve honed my people skills through FITC and made great friends along the way!
Brooke Quinn
I love teaching to provide younger generations with opportunities to learn and explore new technologies. As a FITC Student Ambassador, I have been able to hone my professional, leadership, teaching and public speaking skills.
Dominic Fezzie
I love teaching technology because I get to learn along with the kids. It’s a reciprocal process that allows them to learn from us and for me to learn from them. Additionally, I get to see the excitement that kids get from being able to create their own projects and reap the benefits of their learning. I have gained many skills from becoming an FITC Student Ambassador. It has exposed me to so much more technology than I would get in my communications program, and has helped me become more well rounded and educated.
Lindsay Hughes
Since technology is everywhere, it is very important that everyone has the opportunity to learn about it. Almost every job today requires at least a minimal interaction with technology, so it is very important we provide opportunities for people to educate themselves in technology in order to be successful in the working world. Being an FITC Student Ambassador has allowed me to get more involved in the community and campus, and provide an outlet for me to help myself and others familiarize themselves further in technology.
Shannon Levy
When I teach students, I enjoy watching them learning and showing them they can do whatever they want. I have learned how to simplify teaching methods and also learned how to use a Raspberry Pi.
Wil Hoskovec
This world that we live in changes so rapidly, so to truly enjoy the innovations and discoveries that come our way, we must adapt, learn, and teach the technologies behind it. Becoming an FITC Student Ambassador has given me the opportunity to educate other students about how interesting and important Information Technology is. As a result, I’ve gained skills in public speaking, networking, and collaboration.
