Rachel Bryson is a senior at Florida State University studying Information Technology. Rachel is active in several organizations at the FSU College of Communication and Information, including STARS, Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), Women in IT and ICT Sharing Experiences (WISE), and Community Outreach Group (COG). Rachel also volunteers at the Collegiate Veterans Association (CVA) and works at the FSU CCI Help Desk as a technical analyst.

IMG_9715Although already involved in several student organizations, Rachel wanted to expand her outreach potential by becoming an FITC Student Ambassador. She is part of a team of 16 students at FSU who promote STEM awareness and provide mentoring to young students in the Florida panhandle. As an Ambassador, Rachel has participated in hosting college tours of FSU for local high school students, as well as preparing presentations for these students on the field of information technology. Through collaborating with local high schools, she finds that many students are not giving adequate education of STEM-related fields. She feels that FITC is enabling students to become more interested and aware of the opportunities in technology.

Major: Information Technology
Graduation: Spring 2015
High School: Riverview (Riverview, Fl)

“Technology is constantly changing. If students don’t gain interest in technology, they will be grossly unprepared for life after high school”.

Rachel has big plans after she graduates this coming May. Starting in June, Rachel will work as an Operations Engineer at General Motors in Austin, Texas. Her ultimate career goal is to be an IT Project Manager. To learn more about Rachel, connect with her on LinkedIn or Twitter.

FITC Student Ambassadors make up a team of dedicated and knowledgeable students both at FSU and FAMU. These students travel across the Florida Panhandle to promote information technology, computer science, and computer engineering to high schools. Ambassadors are responsible for activities such as running coding camps, assisting in technology clubs, or hosting college tours. For more information on FITC Ambassadors, visit the Ambassador page.

The Florida IT Career Alliance is an initiative funded by the Florida Board of Governors which aims to recruit, retain, and employ Florida's next generation technology workforce. FITC promotes information technology, computer science, and computer engineering to local high schools and college students across Florida. Connect with FITC on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
